TAKE THE HIGHWAY TOO
I have had my driving license for more than a decade now but for different reasons I haven‘t been driving. Few months ago, live circumstances forced me to, so I have started driving once again. As you all could guessed, decade of non-driving has its effects on me. I have been shaky, afraid, and not sure on many different things on the road. And of course, some inpatients drivers do not hesitate to honk me reminding of my inadequacy whenever I’m going to slow according to their standards or making some errors on the road.
Now that I’m almost back to normal driving, my body get
relaxed, so did eyes too. I can see the surrounding of the road, or detect a
possible error from the GPS. As my body get relaxed my mind became active.
Today as I was driving, I was able to notice the multiple cars in front of me and
even those ones my side. The cars had the same direction but not same
destinations. They were mostly different. For sure some cars were the same
models but most of the cars were different. We were all on that road, riding to
our destinations.
The models, the shapes, the speeds, were all different. Some
cars were bigger, whenever they were near me, I felt like changing speed or
fade away from them. Some were smaller, anytime I passed by them I felt bigger
and at ease. When a car which I believed had the same characteristics as mine
was trying to outrace me, I´d press the gas and driving became fun once again.
As my mind relaxed, and I noticed all those cars around me.
Small, big, gagster, slower, this sentence came to me. “TAKE THE HIGWAY TOO”.
The more I thought about the sentence, more It became
cleared the message it carried. So, allow me to make this shear with you the
reflections I’ve had on that road.
As my mind relaxed further I thought to myself:
Life here on earth could be represented by the many roads
available to us. You and I being one of those cars. Although we might have some
similitudes, we have our singularities and our identities like those cars. There
is no doubt that we are all created different. We might encounter some
specifics restrictions according to the different countries but for most of them
with the right documents we could drive in any roads. Even when we met those restrictions,
they do not exclude a car for its color, shape, motor…
This goes the same for our daily life. Although we have
discriminations still in our world but it is no longer legal. The real discrimination,
or better saying, the real handicap is what we have inside. The many false
truths that we turned into realities in the inner core of ourselves. They are within
us, so constantly with us everywhere we go.
With further thinking during my drive, I came to exclude all
the handicapping reasons, I’ve asked myself:
Why should you and I take the highway too?
Well, the highway is where:
- Given the distance that you have to go, you check first your
gas level and the overall auto performances before starting: unless you are
prepared for an opportunity the moment it comes it’ll ridicule you. Life spent
in preparation make the moment only easier.
- It doesn’t matter the type of car you are; it matters only
your own destination: In life you might be tall, short, have some mobility
difficulties but it matters not what you have but how you use it and where you
are going,
- It doesn’t matter how fast are the others, only what your
car is capable of: Know thyself said the wiseman. I’d add, you can use yourself
properly only if you know thyself. You could try to cut a tree with a table knife
but an axe is far better.
- There are many exits roads but matters only the one you know
it is yours to take: We have many options offered to us in life, but only the
ones faithful to what they have truly chosen meet success.
- Traffic jam can slow you down but do not stop you from going
forward: Resting and taking a time to reflect in life it is not failure.
Failure is when we stop. A building is designed to withstand the wind while a
ship is designed to brave the wind and overcome the tides coming against it.
- Everyone is concerned only by his own destination: Unfortunately,
people specially those close to you seem always to know better what it is good
for you but in the right environment the question is: What do you want to do?
You got to play your music no matter what the others are dancing. Know thyself
so you could find your thyself.
- Nobody pities you for what car you have but for how good you
drive it: Unfortunately, people in our life may always point to what they see,
and that is the result of your training, so it is up to us to be craftsmen of
ourselves.
- Mistake is not easily forgiven, if you missed your exit you’ll
have to drive further ahead before finding the alternative: If you put all your
eggs in one basket letting it fall might seems the end but there is always a
next turn. It might take you longer but it gives you time to reevaluate your goals
and set the right coordinates.
- Even with the faster and highly performing car when caught
in traffic jam, the smaller motorcycle will surpass you: Yes, even when you
have the perfect you, you always need to master patience and respect of others.
- You have most of the time to lock your window in order not to be disturb by noise outside: As John Lennon put it in his song “Working class hero”, “they hate you if you are clever and despise you if you are a fool”. Putting it simply, people would always have an opinion about who, what, when, why and so on, therefore sometimes you need to shut the world down in order to bring your light into this world.
So why should you and I take the highway?
Well although the speed (5mm/min), and the rules are a bit
different, life for us human start in a highway too. The traffic was dense, the
competitors looked the same but only the fittest made it. Yes, you and I were
the sperm that took the highway and reach departure point. And you and I are
the ones who once ready to depart (being born) shouted (baby first cry) I’m
here.
Taking the highway is riding above the small things of life,
going to that height where you can breathe the same air as those ones who
believe they deserve the best in life. Taking the highway is to be willing to abide
by the laws that come with aiming high. After all life started on a natural
highway nothing but ourselves can limit us.
