The Cage

Today I was walking down the street, thinking about my surrounding and the troubles tormenting my mind. So I was walking, before I realized it I found myself in quiet street. You know, sometimes the noise around you help you escape from it.
So suddenly when I found myself in this quite place I've snapped out my mind to then return on it. I was thinking How quite the street was and how beautiful the houses were. Everything was clean, a lot of trees around the houses, seems to me that they were singles proprieties. So my mind questions me:

  •  what if you were in America?
  •  What if you were in a rich district of America?
  •  What if this district was of caucasians?"

The last question couldn't start by " what if" since is the case,
So my mind was going on questioning It  came to this last sentence: " Well, you're a black man walking as if you deserve in rich caucausian district, what could happens to you?"
To answer to this question, I didn't have to travel all the way to America, since this reality is all over the occidental world.
So I've started answering:

  • They may look down on me, asking with faces seeming to say, who do you think you are?
  • The may call the police on me, saying that there's a suspect in their district?
  • Some would have insulted me directly without hesitation;
  • The police may arrived and tell me that I'm not supposed to be disturbing the tranquility of the good people living there? But first they would ask me if I have a document? well usually they say: " Hey? do you have a document?

So my mind entertained by my answers went on teasing me: " You are a black man walking down the street of very rich caucasians, and suddenly a dog barks, since I know you don't like dogs, and surprised that you're, you start running? What then?

I laugh, but I have to answer: " well, I don't know how many of them, but at least anyone having a gun in their district could have shut at me." Yes they would have killed me.

I know you're not surprised because you know it's the truth. Nobody would have tried to know if I was running to save my life. They would have just shut me because, I am a black man running in a district that I'm not suppose to be. So those dogs barking are doing so to protect something. It seems that in this case, the human kind understands better the barking of dogs than the natural inclination of human to run from anything that endangers their life.

This is the cage I'm talking about.  This cage has made a lot of misconceptions that have become rules, facts. The facts say:

  •  A black man is a thief;
  •  A black man is a liar;
  •  A black man is a danger for the society;
  • Black men are damn;

And so on, I think about how many innocents young black have been killed by the incident of those facts? I think about how many mothers have cried, because they thought their sons were the best of the neighborhood.  They believe they were doing a good job, by telling to their children to study, to prepare themselves for a better future. And then those mothers are forced to question the integrity of their sons. They'll never been able to explain themselves, but the facts explain it for them. " Most of the young black men are very good to dupe their mothers about being good sons, but out there, they're something else.
I thing the younger brother, who knows his brother, who looking at his brother as a good example to follow, who knows that his brother doesn't deserve this death and swears vengeance. This the cage, the facts has made a new enemy of society.

Please don't get me wrong, thinking that I talk only about race. The cage is big, the cage says, that Israel will never know peace, it says that man is a dictator, It says in Africa children die because of lack of food...
The beauty of this cage is that if it says something it has all the power to make it a truth, to make it a reality, therefore a fact, .

I'm not blaming anybody, because we're all in the cage, and the cage rules by its  rules. Pay attention to not step out of it,  otherwise your head, your feet, your arms, your life will be taken.

Who own the cage?? You know better.

Fluid of my mind Simon Juste
